• Google put together a comprehensive list of their 60(!) biggest AI announcements in 2024. This year saw the brand take a 360º approach to its AI policy, having spent the year re-hiring employees that had previously quit over the brand’s prior reluctance to publicize their AI technologies. - source
  

• President-elect Donald Trump has named Sriram Krishnan Senior White House Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence. Krirshnan serves as a General Partner at VC firm Andreessen Horowitz, and has held leadership roles at Microsoft, Twitter, Yahoo!, Facebook & Snap. - source
  

• Are you a Botto fan? The “decentralized autonomous artist” is an AI agent tied to a collective - BottoDAO - that votes on GenAI images to determine what art Botto “publishes”. Botto has made more than $5 million since its inception in 2021. - source

• Albania has announced a one-year TikTok ban, following a school stabbing attack in the nation. The move comes as the app’s legal status faces increasing uncertainty in the US. - source

• Telegram, the messaging and social app operated by controversial Russian billionaire Pavel Durov, has reported profitability this year after paying down a significant chunk of its $2 billion debt. Durov was arrested earlier this year in France over refusals to cooperate with EU officials to provide Telegram user data. - source

  • Pavel has claimed to be a staunch advocate for data privacy rights, though the billionaire has made multiple visits with high-ranking Russian govt. officials since fleeing the nation in the outbreak of Russia’s invasion of Crimea.

  • Earlier this month OpenAI quietly released a ‘Santa’ temporary voice option for its conversational voice mode. In recent weeks ChatGPT has also added web search capabilities to voice mode, letting Santa search actually the web. Something the elves generally don’t let him do. - source
