AI News šŸ“°

Robots in the Wild šŸ¤–

  • Last week we reported on Project Stargate, a new initiative from the Trump administration intending to secure US supremacy in the AI sector. This week news of a new open-source model from Chinese startup Deepseek spurred on those concerns like never before.

    • Much of the commotion has been due to the low cost Deepseek has reported for operating the model. While Deepseek claims that the low costs are made through innovations in efficiency, researchers from OpenAI & Microsoft have begun to openly doubt the veracity of the Chinese startupā€™s claims. - source

    • Meanwhile, Google today released a blog post seemingly in reference to Deepseekā€™s growth, emphasizing the need for the US to ensure its ā€œnarrow lead in AIā€ - source

  • The US Copyright Office has released ā€˜Part 2ā€™ of its Artificial Intelligence Report, indicating that AI-assisted works can get copyright so long as enough human creativity drives the project. - source

  • A new document from the Vatican laid out warnings about the risks presented by AI. The ā€œNote on the relationship between artificial intelligence and human intelligenceā€ highlights both challenges and opportunities enabled by the rapid advancement of AI tech. - sources

    • Iā€™d like to see one of those cardinals make a rapid advancement that isnā€™t towards the nearest restroom.

News That Even AI Couldnā€™t Hallucinate šŸŒŽ

Not everything in the news can be about AI. Hereā€™s some stuff you should know about:

  • The EU is reportedly planning to ban video game console sales in Russia, with the EU foreign policy chief claiming that the Russian military can rework the machines to operate drones. - source

    • Meanwhile, Putin has yet to respond to my 1v1 requests. Not even in Roblox.

  • Google is open-sourcing PebbleOS, the once-popular brand of eInk wearables that broke records on Kickstarter. Pebble co-founder Eric Migicovsky has likewise stated his intent to bring back his own brand of Pebble devices, now in development. - source

  • A crowd crush at one of the worldā€™s largest religious festivals has resulted in at least 30 deaths in India. - source
