• OpenAI has introduced new shopping functionalities within ChatGPT, enabling users to receive personalized product recommendations directly through the chatbot. – source

• Meta has released its own standalone Meta AI app, alongside a new API for deploying Llama models in the cloud. - source

• OpenAI announced that GPT-4 will be retired from ChatGPT today, having been fully replaced with GPT-4o. GPT-4 will remain accessible via API for developers. – source
  

• Researchers from the University of Zurich conducted an unauthorized AI experiment on Reddit’s r/changemyview subreddit, deploying AI-powered bots that posted over 1,700 comments under various personas, including trauma survivors and political activists.

  • The experiment, conducted without user consent, has been condemned by Reddit moderators and team members alike, with Reddit’s Chief Legal Officer calling the experiment “deeply wrong on both a moral and legal level” – source
    

• Natasha Lyonne and Jaron Lanier are collaborating on a film harnessing GenAI titled Uncanny Valley. The movie aims to provide a surreal and thought-provoking perspective on the evolving relationship between humans and AI technologies. – source

• A terrorist attack in disputed territory Kashmir resulted in the deaths of 26 people, including 25 Indian nationals and one from Nepal, with 17 others injured. The attack has escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. – source

• Canada’s Liberal Party won a fourth term under Mark Carney, falling just short of a majority and setting the stage for a minority government. The election centered heavily on trade and tensions with the Trump Administration. – source

• At least 70 people were killed and over 1,200 injured in a massive explosion at Iran’s Shahid Rajaee port. Authorities suspect chemical storage failure as the cause. – source

• A blackout across Spain and Portugal left millions without power. Officials blame an unusual atmospheric event—not cyberattack—for destabilizing the regional grid. – source
