• Amazon is reportedly working on a GenAI ‘Remarkable Alexa’ as a subscription add-on to existing Alexa-enabled products. Amazon has already begun integrating GenAI across its retail experience with an in-app AI shopping assistant, ‘Rufus’. - source 
  

• Klarna, the FinTech startup best known for its ‘Buy Now, Pay Later’ loan offerings, is aiming to cut its workforce in half as a result of new AI tools for marketing & customer support. The firm has already begun its plans to lay off a total of 4,000+ employees! - source
  

• A controversial AI safety bill has passed through the California senate, dividing Silicon Valley. Anthropic has weighed in on the bill, offering suggestions to the state, while OpenAI has officially opposed the legislation in its entirety. Elon Musk - whose notably fallen out with the OpenAI team - says the bill should “probably” be passed. - source

• Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, has been released from custody after being arrested in France this week. The Paris Prosecutor’s office alleged noncompliance with authorities over a number of cases, stirring debates around privacy, free speech, and illegal online activity. The Billionaire has previously had clashes with the Russian government over his social media platform VK, fleeing the country after refusing to hand over information on Ukrainian users during the ongoing conflict. - source

• The House Judiciary Committee released a letter from Mark Zuckerberg, wherein he admits ‘regret’ for adhering to Biden Administration requests to take down content around COVID-19 misinformation, along with NY Post’s initial reports on Hunter Biden’s laptop. The Biden Administration was cleared by the Supreme Court after a legal dispute over the govt’s ability to make these kind of requests of private companies. - source

• Two Trump campaign staffers have been accused of “verbally abusing and pushing” an employee at Arlington Cemetery as Trump attended a wreath-laying ceremony. Trump’s campaign denied the characterization, saying “we are prepared to release footage if such defamatory claims are made.” - source
