• OpenAI has begun rolling out a “ChatGPT Agent” mode that lets GPT-4o spin up a virtual computer, browse, type and chain multiple tools to finish multi-step tasks for Pro, Plus and Team users – source

• New AI-centric browsers keep coming: The Browser Company unveiled Dia, Perplexity shipped Comet, Opera teased Neon, more Gemini integrations have come to Chrome, and rumors still abound around OpenAI’s supposed browse - all promising built-in agentic search and on-page reasoning – source

  • But if AI is ‘killing the web’, why double down on the browser? We think the story is a bit more complicated. Luckily, there’s a Dappier blog for that.

• For Google and OpenAI, the race is really on. Google DeepMind and OpenAI both achieved gold medal-level performance at this year's International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), but only Google officially entered the competition. - source

  • The decision not to enter in an official capacity was a seemingly a strategic marketing one from OpenAI. The ChatGPT creator chose not to await certification of the results so that they could beat Google to the announcement!

• Leaks of a config file labelled “GPT-5 Reasoning Alpha” and new entries in OpenAI’s BioSec repo have fueled fresh speculation that GPT-5 testing is underway and may debut this quarter – source

News That Even AI Couldn’t Hallucinate 🌎

Not everything in the news can be about AI. Here’s some stuff you should know about:

• A person suspected of being the administrator for the Russian language cybercriminal forum XSS.is was arrested in Ukraine this week. He was alleged to have accumulated ~$8.2 million enabling illicit activities. - source

  • The closed-access forum - which now points to a Europol notice - had more than 50,000 registered users selling and buying stolen data and hacking tools.
    

• Indonesia and the United States reached a pact to scrap tariffs on 99 % of U.S. goods and remove key non-tariff barriers, while Washington trims planned duties on Indonesian exports to 19 %. – source
